-Pokes muse- Hmm...
As I drown myself in all I know I listen to the rain Patterns shown through the glass They point out all my pain
I try and tune out all the sound So maybe then, just maybe then I could write a song for you A song of, make it a song of something profound
Kalen paced in random shapes beside the nearest fountain. He was bored beyond belief and had nothing to do but waste time. Wasting time was not one of his strongest points, really. So this wasn't easy to just walk back and forth all alone.
''Miért vagyok untatott? Léteznek sok dolog. ÉN. tudna lenni készítő. Valóban most.'' He muttered softly in Hungarian as he slowed in his steps. He may have been from Romania, but he was more fluent in this than in Romanian. He knew many languages actually, he just chose to stick with one or two. Besides, muttering to himself was not something he should be doing. What if someone saw him? They might think he was crazy or something. He wasn't crazy, mind you.
Getting bored with staring at the ground, Kalen looked up and glanced around to see if anyone was around to join him in the courtyard.

Enter Ebony. As always, he was staring at the ground. That was how Ebony walked. Staring at the ground and avoiding any form of eye contact if it could be avoided. His blue-black hair fell into his gorgeous green eyes. No one would see those eyes, though. He was too busy concentrating on the ground. A black messenger bag wrapped around his body. It was decorated with various patches with various band names on the smooth surface.
He was a thin youth. Tall and slender with alabaster skin and layered hair falling into wide eyes. Quiet, too. Ebony was incredibly quiet. He was shy, awkward, and words didn't come to him. They were always there. Words were always there for Ebony, he just rarely uttered them. Other people made him uncomfortable, and he felt that he couldn't relate well to them.
Biting on his full lips, Ebony heard someone talking in what sounded like some completely messed up language. It was a cool language, though. It made Ebony's lips quirk up only slightly into what was a very bare smile. But Ebony didn't look up to see the owner of the voice, or to ask what they had said. He continued looking at the ground and walking with his smooth and slow pace. The sound of water came closer and closer. Ebony just didn't realize how close it was.
His foot collided with the side of the fountain. Pain shot up in tendrils. "Ouch. Fuck, damn it to fucking hell." Ebony's eyes finally left the ground. They were wide now, wider than they usually were, and watery from the sudden impact. He wasn't going to cry. It just twinged slightly. His pale and lovely face contorted in pain. "Fuck, fuck, fuck!" Ebony closed those beautiful green eyes and shook his head. The layered blue-black hair fell into his heart-shaped face again. He started doing the "pain dance." You know, where you grab your foot and kind of dance around.
Talk about mortifying.

Huzzah. Our muse is sort of working. lol
Kalen hadn’t noticed Ebony walk past him until after the other had yelped. He jumped a bit and almost tripped as he turned and looked over to where the pained voice was coming. ’’Milyen az fene?’’ He frowned slightly before blinking his wide chocolate eyes. Ebony’s actions made him slightly confused and curious as he watched him for a few seconds. He wasn’t too sure on what to do as he shifted his weight and bit his lip. The other was indeed in pain, but should Kalen act on it? Of course he should. What the hell was he thinking?
He swallowed lightly to clear his throat before glancing around. No one else around. Damn… in a way. He didn’t want to be rude or mean hen he spoke, so he thought for a minute on what to say. What could he say? He knew he was hurt and most likely in a sour mood, so those questions are out. Hmm.
’’Are you alright? Need any help?’’ Kalen mentally cringed at his thick Transylvanian accent. It was heavy and distinctive, no real way to get rid of it. Kalen just hoped he could be understood well enough for a response, if he would get one. He had never seen the other before, he was sure of it. He would have remembered a pretty face like that. Having said that, Kalen wasn’t sure what reaction he might get. Hopefully a sincere one though.
Flipping his longer two tone locks out of his face, he waiting for a response. Impatiently of course. Kalen was now curious to see where this all would go. He was like that sometimes. At least he wasn’t being pushy, Kalen just wanted an answer so he could get to the introduction part. Then again, only if the other was friendly enough.
Ebony looked friendly. Well, he didn’t look mean at least. That was friendly enough for Kalen. He shifted his weight again and glanced over the other to see if anything besides beauty showed up. Eh… it might have helped if Ebony wasn’t cussing in streams. Not that it bothered Kale, just that it was hard to pick apart what more to ask or say to him.

Questions. Another voice. Ebony immediately stopped his movement, nodded, and looked at the ground. He tucked his slender fingers into the tight pockets of his ripped blue jeans. Biting at his lower lip, Ebony shrugged. His foot gave a moment of throbbing pain, much to his dismay, and Ebony cringed. The other boy had an accent. It wasn't an unpleasing accent. Just an accent. That made him feel a little better. A few people had commented on Ebony's British accent, often asking him the meanings behind the various slang, or just staring at him odd. The accent because almost impossible to understand when he was drunk. Not that Ebony got drunk often. Just once or twice. He wasn't a big drinker.
"Er, uh, y-yeah. I'm fine," Ebony managed to stutter out while flushing. His British accent flitted gracefully over his soft words. They came out barely a whisper as he stared at the hard surface of the ground. His green eyed gaze remained fixated there. Crap, damn human contact! It would be so much easier to just ignore people and have them ignore you. That's what Ebony had been going for, but apparently the fountain didn't want the skinny teenager to remain unnoticed.
"Uhm, sorry for disturbing you." The messenger bag was cutting into the delicate skin of his neck. It was hurting and bruising the white skin, but Ebony didn't make a motion to move it. He just left it there. He felt the pulse in his neck against the harsh fabric of the strap. Biting hard on his lip, Ebony resisted the urge to run. That would be incredibly rude. Ebony may be a lot of things, like shy and completely anti-social, but he wasn't rude. Or, he tried not to be. It might come off as that often, but he wasn't intentionally rude.

Kalen could tell the other was the nervous type just by watching him halt and fidget. Not that it was a bad thing, just an observation. His eyes softened as he offered a smile, hoping that he wasn’t going to run from him. He’d hate to chase him down and get a name. If anything, Kalen was probably already scaring poor Ebony.
Blinking a bit and shifting his weight in a curious fashion, Kale was slightly disappointed. The other was really skittish from what he could hear and see. That’s no fun. Kalen nodded though to his words and smiled a little wider. He also flipped his hair out of his angular featured face so he could see Ebony better. Looking him over again Kalen internally grinned, at least he was speaking. ’’You haven’t yet disturbed me.’’ Kalen replied lightly, trying not to be way too friendly. ’’I’d tell you otherwise’’
The other’s accent was interesting and intriguing. It made him smile. It meant he wasn’t the only one without a Canadian accent. Woot. Glancing around again, Kalen took a deep breath. ’’And if you were wondering… I’m not a vampire, I won’t bite and or eat you and my name is Kalen.’’ He paused awkwardly, looking back at Ebony. ”And you are?’’ This time his voice was softer, more gentle. He felt that if he was his usual loud and friendly self he’d scare Ebony off.
He’d at least wait until he had a name with a pretty face.

Peeking up through his bangs, Ebony offered a very tiny smile. He fidgeted some more, and it was obvious, but Ebony wasn't aware. He clicked his teeth together and flipped the hair out of his eyes. He was going to attempt eye contact. Yes, that's right. Ebony was going to attempt eye contact! That meant the skinny little white boy was going to drag his gaze away from the ground and try to make a new friend. Cue the dramatic music.
...
Ebony raised his head. The blue-black hair framed his heart-shaped face. He was nervous as his gaze flitted to the other boy's face. Blinking, Ebony smiled apologetically. His full lips turned upwards into a smile. This time it was more of a smile and less of an awkward twitch of the lips. It took Ebony a moment to register why Kalen had mentioned vampires. Then the accent. Transylvania. Ebony wasn't stupid. Just merely a little bit slow at times. "I won't bury you in tea and crumpets, but my name is Ebony." Ebony flushed again and looked away. It wasn't to the ground this time, though. Instead he focused on the fountain. Eye contact wasn't Ebony's thing.
At least this gave him a chance to situate his bag. Ebony removed it from his body and placed it against the side of the fountain. Feeling flustered, Ebony looked at the water for a few minutes. Anything to avoid looking at Kalen. Silence. And then, "It's nice to meet you." Words. Real words! Ebony was trying his hardest, he really was, and he was actually a very sweet bugger. It just took him a bit to open up. Quickly, Ebony glanced at Kalen and looked at the ground. Damn, and he had made so much progress! His pale and pointed chin rested against his chest as he pretended to find the ground far more interesting. It wasn't.

Kalen was starting to feel nervous watching him be nervous. He was awkward and Ebony was proving to be really really shy. but seeing the other move and flip his hair, Kale held his smile and anxiously shifted a bit. What was he going to do? Hopefully something more exciting than fidget… Kalen hated to see him so nervous. It made him feel unapproachable and that was bad. At least in the young man’s eyes.
To be honest, he was shocked to see Ebony look up from the ground. Though his stunned look was quickly replaced by a cheerful grin. Ebony had a sweet smile and looked rather sincere as he smiled and moved to speak again. Aww, the crumpet and tea part was cute. Ebony. That was a name Kalen thought he could remember. He grinned still. ’’I don’t think I’ve ever had crumpets…’’ Kalen sighed inwardly as Ebony flushed and looked away. He almost had him. Damn it. Oh well, he’d still try. Kalen followed his gaze to the fountain before going back to watching him again. The others awkwardness was interesting and almost depressing. But he was glad he was getting something out of him.
Kalen about jumped out of his skin when Ebony talked again. He looked at him blankly before slowly smiling. ’’It’s nice to meet you too, Ebony.’’ He could tell the other was trying hard to be friendly, so he gave him a break and played along. Well, not so much since he really wanted to open him up and get to know him. As weird as it sounded. Tilted his head a bit and trying to catch the others gaze again. Not finding anything to say further, Kalen left it open for Ebony to speak again.
That is… if he was going to.

"Crumpets are nice." Wait, Ebony could have seriously hit himself for saying that. That was the lamest thing in the history of lame things. He winced. "Ignore that bit," Ebony said while rubbing his temples, "I'm obviously not good with conversation." He blushed. The light pink spreading up his smooth cheekbones. Finally, color on his pale features! Frowning, Ebony suddenly felt stupid and took a step back. When Ebony started taking steps back then he was considering leaving. If he left now then the other person wouldn't even remember. The next day Kalen would look at Ebony and just shrug. They were in the same clique, but Ebony and conversation didn't go well together at all. It was like cats and water. Or oil and water. Ever notice how nothing goes with water? Poor wa--anyway.
Movement! Ebony brought his slender hands out of his pockets. Alert the presses! His green eyes still weren't meeting Kalen's. They were staring at the very uninteresting ground. You know, the ground should be made just for the purpose of painfully shy people. Then they have something mildly fascinating to stare at. Sighing, Ebony shook his head and shrugged one delicate little shoulder.
"I'm sorry," Ebony said in a very soft voice, "this must be utterly boring for you. I'm just--" Ebony paused. He lifted his gaze again to meet Kalen's, and this time he held it. It was very hard for Ebony. He fought against the impulse to look away and run. The expression was pained. Thinking about his words, Ebony chewed on his full lower lip. "I'm not good with people. They, I don't know. I just--yeah," Ebony finished lamely. If one could even call it finishing. He blushed again and took another step back. Damn it!

Kalen laughed lightly. ’’I won’t argue either statement.’’ Why risk pressing further on something when it might just scare Ebony away? He made a mental note to try a crumpet at some point that week. Letting that go, he looked back just in time to see the light color on the others cheeks. ’’Conversations are overrated.’’ Kalen toyed lightly with his belt loop as one hand rested lightly on his slender hip. He was trying hard to get Ebony to relax and lighten up a bit, it freaked him out how nervous and shy the other was. Ebony taking a step back didn’t help Kalen at all, but the other boy did not pursue him. In other words, Kale stayed put. Making him leave was the last thing he wanted right now.
His accent was hopefully getting more understandable as he tried to use words he could easily pronounce. Kale sighed softly when Ebony did and nodded lightly to his shrug. His efforts were hopefully not in vain, Kalen would really hate to give up at any moment soon.
’’Don’t apologize.’’ Kalen replied just as softly, without really thinking. He bit his lip and shifted a bit before shaking his head. ’’And you’re not boring at all. Really.’’ He paused as well when their eyes met. He really had no idea how to go about this so he stayed quiet and returned the gaze intensely. He was trying to read past the nervous and shy outside… but it was harder said than done. None the less his deep chocolate eyes held Ebony’s green ones, even if he wanted to hug him. Damn it, he stayed put though. Didn’t want to scare him.
’’It’s okay, really Ebony.’’ He took a half step forward before rethinking it and just sitting down on the edge of the fountain. ’’I don’t want to force you into talking to me. I just thought I’d try.’’ He stared at his feet before looking over at him again, this time he held a bright smile. ’’You’re welcome to join me if you like, though.’’
Damn him to hell, but he was going to keep trying.

Kalen sat down after brushing away Ebony's apology. He offered Ebony a seat, and the other boy could only stare at the blank space for a couple minutes. Tapping his collar bone with slender fingers, Ebony mentally sighed. He was being stupid. Someone was being nice to him and he was just going to ignore that and be all awkward? No, Ebony wouldn't stand for that. Swallowing, Ebony nodded. He took a seat next to Kalen and folded his hands in his lap. Ebony gazed at them for some time. The fingers were slender and white. Ebony was a sucker for cleanliness, and he was a very feminine. Ebony often got manicures and liked to keep his nails trimmed and taken care of. So he stared at them for a minute before swallowing again.
"You're an artist," Ebony said while quickly looking next to him. He tilted his head while looking at Kalen. Ebony was trying really hard to open up. If he found a topic he shared with Kalen then it would be better. So far they both weren't actually born in Canada. But hey, that was a start. They were also both in the "Artists" clique, which meant they had to share similar interests. "Do you have anything in the art show?" Ebony asked before glancing at his black messenger bag. It held his camera. The camera that he took everywhere with him. Ebony had a few photographs in the art show. Mostly nature things from last autumn that he took. The youth wouldn't reveal his darker pieces.
Sometimes the spray from the fountain would land in Ebony's hair. He'd shake the droplets for his hair. Slowly, Ebony smiled at Kalen. He still fidgeted, but Ebony was becoming a little less shy. Eye contact was still hard to maintain, and Ebony was definitely out his comfort zone, but he forced himself to look at Kalen. It's not like Kalen was horribly disfigured or ugly. He was actually one of those kids people would randomly want to hug. If Ebony was a bit more random in personality then he'd hug the boy sitting next to him on the fountain ledge. But Ebony wasn't like that. So he just sat there with his full lips turned up in a smile on his pale and delicate heart-shaped face.

Kalen nervously sat there, turning and looking down at his checkered vans and slim, washed out jeans. They had faded stripes down the sides and small holes near the pockets. His favorite pants. the shoes.. not so much. He could live without them. Deciding not to stare at Ebony was probably a good thing, Kalen was almost sure he would freak him out. He was avoiding eye contact now as he waiting for those few long minutes. Though when Ebony actually sat down next to him, Kalen looked over again and smiled. He was really glad that his offer wasn’t rejected. That would have made him really sad, especially when he was still trying to make more friends. Though Ebony’s awkwardness was still discouraging.
As Ebony spoke, Kale turned slightly to face him a little more. ’’I am, but no.’’ He shook his head lightly, his feathered hair flitting back and forth before resting again on his forehead. ’’My art is on another’s face. I’m a make up artist.’’ He paused awkwardly now and glanced around. He left his work in his dorm, or worse. With his mother. He shrugged. ’’I would show you, but I don’t have any with me.’’ A rather sheepish smile curled his lips as his eyes followed Ebony’s before he looked back at him curiously.
Seeing the other’s smile made Kalen a little more confident. He was easily discouraged when it came to Ebony. It bothered him. He watched him carefully as Ebony fidgeted and tried to hold eye contact. This kid was cute. Not like, dateable cute. More of a ‘I want to hug you and pet you and name you Bob’ cute. Kalen was strange like that. He was restraining himself and not hugging Ebony… yet. He figured eventually he couldn’t take it anymore and would. Either way it was awkward.
Kalen had the random urge to do something, and the one larger drop of water on Ebony’s hair was starting to bother him. So what did he do? Kalen slowly reached up and knocked it off, letting it drip down his hand and onto the ground. Blinking, Kale realized it might have seemed weird…
Dropping his hand, he averted his eyes and stumbled for words. ’’I’m sorry… there was just this drop, and er, I just.. sorry.’’ Kalen mumbled softly, biting at his lower lip. His mild OCD and weird habits always got the best of him.

Ebony listened and couldn't help but be amazed. Makeup artist! For some reason that greatly amused and surprised Ebony. He had never actually mastered makeup. Eyeliner and Chapstick was about as far as Ebony got. A few jabs in the eye later, Ebony had mastered eyeliner. He didn't wear it as often anymore. He always poked himself in the eye and killed the eye cells. Poor buggers. Lost their lives to the skinny little white kid. "You know? That's really cool. I could never get the hang of makeup. I always jab myself in the eye or--yeah, mostly jab myself in the eye." That had been the longest sentence Ebony had uttered since meeting Kalen. Smiling, the teenager was quite proud of himself. "I have some photography in the show, but makeup is much cooler than some skinny white boy taking pictures with a camera." Wow, Ebony was on a roll!
There was movement. In his hair. Ebony jumped and fell backwards right into the fountain. There was a splash and water droplets sprayed everywhere. His ass made contact with the concrete of the fountain and throbbed. The fountain was bad luck for Ebony. Screaming, Ebony was now completely covered in water. His blue-black hair dripped and plastered to his pale face. Ordinary people would get angry. But Ebony...
He laughed. Hysterically. With his head tilted back and teeth exposed, Ebony laughed loudly. The sound echoed around his wet and skinny body. A few people turned to stare, but Ebony continued laughing. Tears mingled with the water from the fountain. His sides started to twinge from the pain of laughing so hard. A few snorts escaped the boy called Ebony, and he almost rolled over into the water from laughing so hard. A few more minutes, and then Ebony started to calm down. "The water is surprisingly warm, Kalen." Ebony splashed from inside the fountain. Little ripples were sent everywhere. He shook his head and water was sprayed everywhere. Now the locks were spikey around his pretty face.

Seeing that Ebony looked intrigued by his profession, Kalen grinned. ’’Yeah, as soon as I graduate I was offered a job for a modeling agency.’’ Kalen looked Ebony over lightly. There was a potential model for his portfolio… but Kalen felt awkward asking. It was slightly random after all. So instead he moved on and responded to the rest of his words. ’’Yeah, make up can be hard for a lot of people. That’s why there’s me.’’ Kalen laughed a bit. ’’Its good you finally got the hang of it though. Jabbing yourself hurts.’’ Offering a kind smile Kalen nodded humbly. He could see how Ebony would think his talent was much cooler than his. Photography. Camera. Kale thought about it a bit, taking pictures was always fun. Not if they were of him though, ew. ’’Pictures are really cool though.’’
Kalen gasped when Ebony jumped back and then proceeded to fall in the fountain. That wasn’t good. The young make up artist jumped up and panicked slightly. He felt really bad and hoped the scream and the splashes weren’t really bad. Then he’d feel miserable…
But as Ebony started laughing, more panic struck the poor boy. He half paced and frowned worriedly. Had he hit his head when he fell? Most people would get angry, but Ebony was not. He was laughing. That usually meant it was funny, right? Right. Knocking himself back into reality, Kalen noticed Ebony had a cute little laugh. And snort. Snorts were adorable in Kalen’s mind, but it was a little weird.
Taking a deep breath, Kalen smiled and shook his head. ’’I’m not sure who was scared more...’’ Kalen paused and walked back over the couple steps and crouched next to the walls of the fountain near Ebony. ’’Warm huh?’’ Grinning, Kalen watched Ebony a bit, running his fingers over the water as he steadied himself with the other. He watched Ebony for a few minutes before splashing him lightly. ’’Don’t be so jumpy, Ebony. I said I wouldn’t bite you.’’ Kalen smirked playfully before standing.

Standing up, Ebony tried his best to dry himself. His black shirt clung to his thin torso. The water fell off of it in large amounts. The jeans would be a bitch to try and take off later. They were also clinging to his tiny little thighs. He tried his best to wring out the sopping wet clothes, but it really wasn't helping much. Shaking like a dog, more water droplets fell from Ebony. "I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to scare you," Ebony said with a small frown. He started walking around in the fountain. The water was amusing. It was all clear and warm. Casting a fake glare to Kalen, Ebony playfully splashed him back.
"I know that. I'm just really skittish and I wasn't expecting you to get all OCD with my hair." Ebony flipped his now wet hair and struck a pose. "I'm picky about my hair. No touchy-touchy." Who knew falling into a fountain would help break Ebony's awkwardness. "You want to join me? I swear the water is warm. My lips would be blue if I was lying to you," Ebony said as he crinkled to nose to the little mini-poem he had just created. He splashed some more and almost lost his footing a couple times.
Walking over to the ledge of the fountain, Ebony stood up on it. Looking around, Ebony jumped into the fountain again. The water wasn't deep. It only came up a little bit below his knees. But now he was splashing and laughing like some cute and random little kid. People were really starting to stare now, but Ebony just smiled at them as the water glinted off his pallid features. "This is really fun!" Ebony exclaimed. This had to be the most random thing the boy had ever done. Randomness wasn't a trait people often associated with Ebony.

Kalen couldn’t help but laugh at his attempts to ring out the water. He was never going to get all that water out like that. Though him shaking like a dog was rather amusing, Ebony was rather amusing. Kalen thought he was quieter than that… but looks are deceiving. So he just grinned and laughed a bit as he was splashed at. ’’You didn’t really scare me. just shocked me, that’s all.’’ Kalen finally assured him as he stood fully and shook his head a bit to get the water out.
’’Sorry.’’ Kalen replied lamely as he shot dirty looks at the people staring at them. Bastards. They were just jealous. He looked back at Ebony and raised a brow slightly. ’’Oh? Alright. I won’t touch your hair anymore.’’ He couldn’t help but hold an amused look on his face though. Ebony’s sudden openness wasn’t slipping past him. Kalen blinked. ’’Join you? Uhm… sure. Why not’’ Kalen shook his head and laughed lightly at Ebony’s reaction to his own words. ’’But don’t fall, alright?’’
Watching Ebony jump around and play convinced him it must be fun, so he hopped over the ledge into the strangely warm water. Huh, really was warm after all. Kale rolled his eyes at his random exclamation before scooping up a bunch of water and splashing him. ’’I wonder why people don’t do this more often.’’ Kalen laughed as he almost tripped and fell. This was really fun.
